A group of American and European sport activists who promote Los Angeles to host 33rd Olympic Games in 2024 support the initiative to include e-sports into the Olympics.
Casey Wassermann, chairman of the committee promoting Los Angeles to become the host of the Olympics, commented:
“If our city wins this difficult competition for the Olympic Games of 2024, e-sports will be part of the Games”.
We would like to remind our readers that in 2014 some changes were introduced into the rules of the Olympic Games –specifically regarding the Olympic status of some other sports competitions, and the procedure was simplified. In the past the only organisation that could apply to the International Olympic Committee was an international association of a certain sport. Now the same initiative can come from committees and cities participating in the Olympic Games. For example, in Tokyo which will host the Summer Olympic Games of 2020 new sports competitions such as surfing and skateboarding will be present alongside with traditional events.
According to Casey Vasserman, initialisation and inclusion of e-sports into the Olympic movement will lead to their popularisation in the whole world which will automatically attract the younger generation to the principles and values of the Olympic Games.
Los Angeles is one of the three cities nominated for hosting the Olympics of 2024 competing with Budapest and Paris. Sports analytics think that Europeans have more chances to win during the voting that will be held in Lima, Peru during mid-September of 2017. Still, Los Angeles is the only city experienced in running significant e-sports competitions. For example, in 2016 it hosted the World Championship in the League of Legends.
